Biography

Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, cellist and music creator Peter Phelan spent his youth immersed in music from Bartok to Bluegrass.

He is a founding member of the Haver Quartet, a string quartet which specialises in original music, cross genre collaboration and community projects. Peter writes much of the group's original music.

Peter has played with many orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North, the BBC Philharmonic for live broadcast on BBC Radio 3, and the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra.

He currently teaches at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior Department, Sistema Scotland, and St. Aloysius College. He previously taught at In Harmony Opera North in Leeds. In 2021, he completed a PGCEi in Group Instrumental Learning accredited through Birmingham City University in partnership with Music Masters.

Peter completed a Masters in Music at the Royal Northern College of Music and a Bachelors in Music Performance at the University of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music. His principal teachers have been Lee Fiser, Ilya Finkelshteyn, and Eduardo Vassallo.

When not playing the cello, Peter enjoys making homemade granola and staying up late to root for (and invariably be dissapointed by) the Cincinnati Bengals.
